Not every state in America can get Alltel wireless internet now, but in the near future, Alltel plans to reach out to as many states as possible. Thirty-five states already enjoy Alltel wireless internet service for their phones, laptops and PDAs (Personal Data Assistants). Wireless is the most economical and fastest way to go for both business and personal use, but you need a provider. But since the technology is so new, the companies are relatively new, as well. What makes Alltel wireless internet stand out from the others?

One Of The Oldest And Growing

Alltel has been around since 1998 in Little Rock, Arkansas, and has since grown to be America?s largest wireless network. Alltel employs over 15,000 employees, so there is a very good chance that when you call customer service, someone will be there to answer. Alltel was bought out by Goldman Sachs and TPG Capital, L.P. to give it the sound financial backing to keep it going for a long time to come. Their stocks and profits consistently increase over the years.

Alltel wireless internet targets primarily cell phones, which have become as common as muck these days. They are so sure you?ll prefer Alltel to your current network, they offer a no risk free 15 day trial. If you don?t like Alltel for whatever reason, you pay nothing. But with being able to phone land lines or cell phones, flexible paying plans and automatic credit on your bill whenever you get a dropped call, you?ll probably not switch. And not only do they offer wireless service, but a cool line of cell phones.

What About Security?

Although wireless is fast and inexpensive, it has been under fire for security problems. Alltel isn?t blind to the fact that there are a lot of identity thieves out there. If you become a victim, you shouldn?t have to pay for what a thief does with your information. If you suspect you are a victim of identity theft, you need to file a police report, contact your creditors and Alltel. They will work with your to get your good name and good credit back.

Alltel wireless internet also is on the lookout for any thieves that might try to purchase goods and services from their web site. They will always ask you to verify a purchase request to try and counter fraud. Their web site is also specially encrypted with the Secure Sockets Layer encryption protocol.

Sprint has always been an innovator in telecommunications since they did their infamous ?pin drop? experiment to prove the clarity of their phone lines in the 1980?s. Back then, Bell System (?Ma Bell?) had the monopoly on America?s phone network, which was suddenly declared illegal after decades of business. MCI was the first challenger phone company to step up to the plate, then Sprint. Sprint didn?t stop with land line phones but kept up with the latest technologies. Today, Sprint wireless internet service is one of the most popular in America.

Installation

Unlike some internet companies that have you do the installation yourself, you get a polite, trained Sprint employee to install your Sprint wireless internet. You will need a computer (obviously), a small digital transceiver (which looks like a satellite dish) to better receive wireless signals and a model to hook up to your computer. The digital transceiver is best hooked up to the roof or an eave, out of the way of trees or other buildings, if possible.

Special Features

Not only do you get access to the fastest kind of internet technology, but you also get some other goodies with Sprint wireless internet. You get:

Up to six email addresses

Six easy to use start up web pages using Earth Link?s Click N Build software and 1 MB of space for each page or a total of 10 MB

Up to 20 hours of remote dial-up access

Various ways to pay, including direct debit, credit card or personal check

No need to change your Internet Service Provider (ISP) like AOL

Three ways to get a hold of support ? by email, by phone or by Sprint wireless internet troubleshooting site, Online Customer Service Support Center.

Security

Another advantage of Sprint wireless internet services is that it is one of the most secure in a very insecure platform. Although you should always install and regularly update computer security programs, you also get free information on wireless internet security tips. And, Sprint regularly monitors their network to check if there is anyone accessing areas where they shouldn?t, using the hacker?s own tricks.

Another reason Sprint Broadband is so secure is the use of that mini satellite-looking transceiver on the roof or eave of your home. Only Sprint customers can pick up and transmissions over the Sprint wireless internet network. This is not a feature of many other companies.

One of the most attractive features of Verizon wireless internet service for your computer(s) is that you do not need to wait all day for a ?Verizon guy? to show up and install it. You install the wireless internet service yourself. You will need about an hour to put it in and fire it up, more or less. You don?t have to be a geek in order to understand the directions, as they come with incredibly easy instructions. If you can?t be bothered to install Verizon wireless internet yourself, then you can call Verizon and they will send a ?Verizon guy? out to you.

Did The Mail Come Yet?

You have to sign up for Verizon wireless internet service online or by calling them on the phone. You probably won?t have to look very far for Verizon?s phone number ? they advertise very heavily. Ideally, you should already be hooked up to the internet via cable or dial-up in order to install Verizon wireless internet yourself. You will then get a lot of instructions in your email, including a notice of when your package was mailed and what tracking number it is.

You then wait for the compact package to arrive in the mail. Save all the packaging and any printed matter inside, just in case you have to mail everything back to Verizon. If you can?t get hooked up to Verizon wireless internet for whatever reason, you get a full refund (minus shipping charges). It?s very rare when you can?t hook Verizon wireless internet up to your computer(s).

Pop In The DVD

In your package, there will be a DVD that clearly gives the installation instructions in big print and big drawings. You will need to unhook your computer (and your land line phones, if necessary) from dial up or cable. You then need to hook little square plastic devices onto your phone lines and to your computer.

You will need to unhook your old modem in order to install a new modem. This involves unplugging it from the electrical outlet and then unhooking it from the back of your hard drive. Take your time to negotiate the tangle of wires. Nothing will explode if you pull out the wrong wire.

The Verizon package will include wires of different colors that do different functions. If you are color blind, you might have difficulty with this part. One color wire hooks the modem to the computer, another to your phone jack and another to the electrical outlet. Follow the DVD instructions, take your time, and things should work out.

WiFi (wireless fidelity) is a relatively new technology with relatively new companies acting as wireless internet service providers. Although it is technically possible to access WiFi without the use of a wireless internet service provider, this is illegal. It?s just like with cable ? illegal access can land you in jail. Considering how inexpensive wireless technology is in comparison to cable, phone lines or other utility bills, a wireless internet service provider is worth paying for. But how do you choose? By running your potential candidate through this checklist, of course!

Is It Available In Your Area?

This might seem like an obvious first point to check out, but it is surprisingly overlooked by many potential customers. Some areas of the country, not to mention the world, will have only one wireless internet service provider covering that area. Since WiFi is becoming the norm rather than the exception, many companies are emerging to cover this need of giving customers a choice.

If you travel a lot, you need a wireless internet service that covers a majority of the country. Even though some providers like Allnet only cover 35 states, they do have agreements with other wireless networks so that you?re not left out in the cold. If you travel to Philadelphia, for example, and you are on Allnet, you will have to use Verizon, which is king in the area, but has an agreement with Allnet to let all Allnet customers use their network.

Have You Ever Heard Of This Company?

Since most wireless internet service providers are only ten years old or less, they do a lot of advertising and special deals in order to make up for their lack of experience. You need to ask around at work or trusted friends or online forums what wireless internet service they recommend. You need to beware of fly by night companies. If you have never heard of the company before, no matter how cheap their rates, move on. You can even check the Better Business Bureau to see if your candidate is in any trouble.

What?s Their Customer Service Like?

You need to be able to get hold of a human being in order to resolve any problems that you (hopefully won?t) have. Being able to get hold of someone fast who makes sense and works with you to get you help is more important than cheap monthly rates. Then only way to test a wireless internet service?s customer service is to bite the bullet and call them.

Wireless internet service providers are internet service providers that mainly focus on rendering service to their clients using wireless networking and technology. They are often called WISP to make their name shorter. Most wireless internet service providers also provide local area networking and voice over internet protocol for their clients or subscribers.

Going wireless is now the rage for most young professional who can not wait for their office connection to be connected to their laptops. Not only yuppies take advantage of the wireless internet service provider boom but also students and other businessmen use the wireless connectivity to go about their daily lives.

Services of A Wireless Internet Service Provider

Additional services other than Internet connection are also provided by the wireless internet service provider. These include but are not limited to voice over internet protocol and virtual private networking. Although, most wireless internet service providers usually concentrate of areas where DSL and cable internet connectivity are low. Many people take advantage of the convenience of the no lines or no cables connection. It is very convenient to the point that all you will need is the receiver which is usually connected to your laptop.

Most wireless internet service providers concentrate on providing their services to people with laptops. This is because most personal computers are usually found inside offices or homes and may have little or no range for the wireless provider. There have been cases where a personal computer is the one attached to the receiver. This is when the receiver is a large antenna that basically receives the signals sent by the wireless internet service provider. In these cases, the personal or desktop computer is usually stable and not moved around too much compared to the laptops which are brought almost anywhere conceivable by their owners.

How It Works

Most wireless internet service providers function by putting up a tower or hitching their antennas on an elevated point sometimes the top of the tallest building in the area and set this as the point which transmits internet signals to their subscribers. The subscribers are usually provided with receivers to be bale to fully appreciate the service rendered by the wireless internet service provider. Laptops are usually given smaller receivers in accordance to their size while receivers which are set at homes are usually larger and bulkier.

Wireless internet service providers are taking the internet industry by storm due to their convenience. You can access the internet from almost anywhere where there is a feasible signal and sometimes you can also use you PDA or a smart phone to do this.
